Relatable DIY expert Delancey (@delancey.diy) is here to walk us through a straightforward and newbie-friendly tile installation tutorial. Whether you're looking to revamp your kitchen backsplash or give your bathroom a fresh look, Delancey's got your back. So, let's jump right into it!

Delancey suggests sticking to premix tile adhesive and premix grout for first-timers. Skipping the mess of mixing your own adhesive and grout is a lifesaver, especially for those just starting in the world of DIY tiling. As for cutting tools, Delancey advises choosing between a wet saw or tile nippers, depending on your comfort level and experience.

Before diving into your project, Delancey says it's crucial to measure the area where you install the tiles. Use those measurements to create a layout plan and determine your needed tiles. If you're unsure, buying a few extras's always a good idea to account for any mistakes or future repairs. Remember, proper planning will save you a headache later on!

Before applying the adhesive, ensure the surface you'll be tiling is clean, dry, and free from debris. If the surface is uneven, Delancey suggests using a specific patching compound to smooth it out.

Grab your notched trowel and apply the pre-mixed adhesive to the surface sweepingly, creating ridges as you go. Only spread as much adhesive as you can comfortably work within 10 minutes. You don't want it drying before you get your tiles on!

Press the tiles firmly onto the adhesive, giving each tile a slight wiggle to help it adhere properly. Delancey recommends using spacers to ensure consistent grout lines and checking your level every few rows.

Got an outlet or tricky corner? This is where your wet saw or tile nippers come in. Measure and mark the tiles that need cutting, then make those cuts. Remember, safety first – wear goggles and gloves when using cutting tools.

Once the tile adhesive is dry, remove the spacers and apply the pre-mixed grout using a rubber grout float. Spread the grout diagonally across the tiles, filling every gap. Finally, clean off any excess grout using a damp sponge and wait for it to dry. Buff your shiny new tiles with a lint-free cloth, and voilà! Your beautiful tiled masterpiece is complete.
